The EGCS were delighted to have a Guernsey entry at this year’s UK Dairy Day. Twelve cattle were forward from 7 Exhibitors for Judge David Mann to place.
David found his Champion in Blacknor Cracker Iceberg Diana owned by the Greenslades in Devon. She was bred by Ian Crouch as was the Reserve, Blacknor Cracker Weston Duchess now owned by Abi Marshall. Hon Mention went to Kimcote Legend Fragrant 4 from the Thomas family from Leics.
David Mann Reports.
This was the first year that Guernseys have been included at UK Dairy Day held at Telford International Centre. For this reason it was a pleasure to have been asked to judge at the show.
The first class of the day was Heifer in milk with four heifers entered. I placed Kimcote Legend Fragrant 4 in first place. This smart balanced dairy heifer had the advantage over Greensfield Amir Star in second, for height, width and fullness of udder. Amir Star had the advantage over Kimcote Legend Angel with a better rump, however, Legend Angel had the advantage of having calved more recently than my fourth place Bickfiled Sally 26. Although fourth place, this animal was extremely balanced.

- Greenslade. Greensfield MK Amir Star.
- A. Thomas. Kimcote Legend Angel.
- Hinton Farm. Bickfield Sally 26 by Double L.
The second class was Junior Cow. there were six entrants. The easy winner of this class was Blacknor Cracker Weston Duchess. The reason this animal was placed over my second Kimcote Pride 3, was that she had the advantage of size and stature, depth of body and an excellent top line. Pride 3 displayed very dairy characteristics and had the advantage over Hinton Oenone 5 in third, placed for a better fore udder.

- Edwards. Severn Ivor Sweetpea.
The final class of the day was Senior Cow. There were two entries only, both having calved four times. I placed Blacknor Cracker Iceberg Diana 1st over Beechgroves Laredo Elinor, having the advantage in size and stature. she had calved more recently, giving her the advantage of a fuller udder.

The Championship went to Blacknor Cracker Iceberg Diana from the Greenslade family. A tremendous animal who showed well on the day. She had the advantage over my Reserve, Blacknor Cracker Weston Duchess having had one more calf and her mammary still being well above the hock. She also showed more dairyness on the day having calved more recently.
I would like to congratulate all exhibitors for the quality of their animals and the showmanship on the day.
Many thanks to all at the show.
David Mann.
