North Somerset Show 1st May 2017

The first show of the season kicked off on Monday May 1st at Wraxall, North Somerset. Two exhibitors had 6 cattle present and with 2 exhibitors not forward on the day, it was a disappointing start to the showing season. After heavy rain overnight, the day was perfect until just after the Grand Parade when the heavens opened and thunder and lightening prevailed!

Judge for the day, was Emma Greenslade, who was making her debut for the EGCS. Emma gave clear and decisive reasons for her placings, and will be a valuable new member of the Guernsey judging panel.

There were 3 maiden heifers forward and this class was won by Avalon Fernando Indus from the Norman and Sales partnership followed by her stable mate, Avalon Fernando Linda. In third place was Edgehill Gotcha Violet from newcomer to the show, Michael Dawes.

Emma Greenslade presents the Champion  prize to Heather Limond.

This young calf made an impression on the Interbreed Calf classes coming second in her class of 8 and being made Reserve Calf champion behind a very smart Jersey who was also Jersey Breed Champion. In the other class of 12, Norman & Sales stood third and Michael Dawes 6th.

In the handling classes, Justina Langley , who was showing one of her family’s Holsteins, was Champion Handler with Heather Limond in Reserve.

Thank you to all exhibitors and helpers present ensuring a Guernsey presence at this show.
