The Bath and West Show are to be congratulated on making changes to the show programme to make Young Handlers and Calf Classes the centre of the programme on the Saturday of the show and the number of people on the ringside during both the Showmanship and the Calf confirmation classes. Allowing calves to arrive on Friday night also saw more calves involved than in previous years.
Three of our young handlers took part with Abi Marshall travelling up from Devon to show Carol Willment’s calf who stood Fourth on Inspection and promptly ate the voucher for the Prize money, does that make her more valuable?
Harry Crowter took Hinton Nancy out in the Handling Classes and she is owned by Brian and Sheils Adams who have over the years provided calves for so many youngsters.
Isobel Phillips showed Burlease Princess Willow (April 14) and made a very good job of showing her particularly after getting a blow to the face by an excited calf.
James Bartlett also made a calf available for others to show and this sort of generosity makes being involved with most Guernsey people so rewarding.
