Bickfield Indus 7th.

At the start of this years showing season, Laura and myself, thought that one of the cows at Bickfield deserved a wider audience than those who are milking her. Having been under TB movement restrictions for the past 4 years, we are now going into our fifth season of ringside viewing and wondering what might have been, especially as our brief window of being TB clear last autumn, yielded a Supreme Dairy Championship at Frome Show and Reserve Breed Champion at S. W. Dairy Show.

This is Bickfield Indus 7th a four and a half year old second calver by the home bred Bickfield Venus Stargazer. Calving on 12th March, she was classified on 31st March at VG88pts and might have gone one higher, had she been a little less fresh. She is currently yielding 37 litres a day and is pictured with 12 hours milk “on board.” In her first lactation she gave 6916 kg and produced for us this time, a heifer calf  by Dairyman Mint Phonze.

I know others are in the same boat as us and if you have a “star” or two in your herd, please get her photographed, send the image to me and I will put her on the website to be appreciated by all the membership.

Good luck to Guernsey exhibitors during the coming shows and a big thank you to all of you for continuing to keep the Breed represented.

Kim Sales.
