Guernseys were well represented at this years Devon County Show with 25 cattle from five exhibitors present. Judge for the day was Mr Colin Evans from Carmarthen, who once again demonstrated his skill at proficient reason giving, justifying his recent promotion to the Senior Judges list. Exhibitors were locals, the Greenslade Family together with Jon White, the Warren Family from Penzance, David Christophers, and Cathryn Mills and Richard Norman aided by Laura Sales. Champion animal was Laity Farm Primrose 97th from the Warren Family. She calved her sixth calf in February and was following in her sister, Primrose 96's footsteps, who won here last year. Reserve Champion was also exhibited by the Warrens, Clay Hill Chrissie 4th, recently purchased from the Foords in East Sussex.

I spoke to Colin Evans after the judging. Here are the full results together with his comments:
I would like to congratulate all of the exhibitors for their efforts in producing such good quality cattle at the show. This quality was to be seen throughout the classes in particular, a superb entry in the junior section.

Heifer In Calf
1. Greenslade. Greenfield Icey Lady by Iceburg. She had the advantage over the second placed heifer, Mills/Norman's, Cadbury Silverado Amanda, in her style and dairyness. My second heifer did not parade as well as my first which gave her a disadvantage, but she gained in strength over the third heifer, Kingwell Monts Pointer from Jon White who was another smart heifer but not as mature the previous animal.
Cow in Calf
1. J. White. Kingwell Poll Kernals Kumasz by Kingwell HP Hero's Kumqaut. She was a correct animal with a well attatched udder and good legs and feet which gave her the advantage over the second placed Je'Taime Lavender 4th by OCS Dairy Goldfoot from Mills and Norman, who was a more mature deep bodied cow, but walked on her pasterns. My third placed cow,
Greensfield Jonagold Sudley just lacked in the maturity of the first two places.
Heifer in Milk
1. Warren. Clay Hill Chrissie 4th by Tiller Khan. She was a superb dairy heifer walking on good legs and feet and had a well attatched udder, high and wide at the rear. Second and third were from the Greenslades, Greensfield Mont's Leapfrog and Oldenburg' Swallow. Both were very dairylike but were not as stylish as my winner.
Cow in Milk
1. Warren. Laity Farm Primrose 97th by Mr Luxury. 2. Tredinney Hunters Memory 3rd by Tredinney Ronalds Hunter. These were two close animals but Primrose 97 had the advantage over her herdmate in her style, balance and power. Memory had a little more balance and topline over the smart 3rd placed cow Kingwell Magicmans Sedge from Jon White. The fourth placed cow, Greensfield Jonagold Shilling was very correct but didn't have the stature of the previous animals.
Group of Three

I had no hesitation in placing
Primrose 97th Champion Guernsey for her style and dairyness. Reserve was the heifer in Milk
Clay Hill Chrissie 4th who is a superb example of the Guernsey Breed.
