This year's workshop was held at Lower Farm, Chettle, Nr Blandford, on Wednesday 15 April 2009, by kind invitation of Ian and David Crouch.  Around seventeen people took part in the judging which included five senior judges.

Line Up of Junior Cows

Our master Judge was Mr Tim Harding, a well known local Holstein breeder and we were also fortunate enough to to have Mr John Gribbon on hand to give some valuable assistance.  Ian and David put forward three rings of superb cattle:  Junior cows, Senior cows and an interbreed class of 2 Guernsey, Jersey and Holstein animals.

Senior Cows Class Line-Up

Among the Guernseys on show were last year's Royal Bath & West Supreme Dairy Champion, Cracker Duchess, and also the well known White Ladies Pauline 58 and Luckley Indigo 16.

It was nice to see most people placing Duchess top in the interbreed class and that included the Master Judge.

Senior judges were led by Colin Gleed with top points on the day of 1330 out of a possible 1380. Second was Chris Watson with 1280 and third was Kim Sales on 1270. Richard Emm was fourth with 1230 and was closely followed by George Davies with 1220.

Three junior judges, Rosemary Charman, Philip Cox and Colin Evans scored 1260, 1260 and 1250 respectively.

Probationer judges were topped by Caroline Greenslade on 1320 with Jon White and Laura Sales equal second, scoring 1280. Newcomer, Kelly Cornish was third with a creditable 1270.

The Judges Standing Committee would like to thank Ian, David and their helpers for turning out the cows in fine form and Tim Harding and John Gribbon for their judging skills. Also a big thank you to our President, Graham Facks-Martin, for working out the scores.

Next year's event will be held in Wales by kind invitation of Colin Evans and family.
