The All Breeds All Britain Calf show was held at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire on February 14-15, 2009.  Despite the time of year and TB shutdown of several potential exhibitors, the Guernseys were well represented with 12 quality calves and 10 handlers.

Those present had travelled from all over England. Three calves came up from Cornwall. The Senior family (Matthew, Coral, Morgan and Bethan) brought two calves, one belonging to them and the other from James Warren and they also brought David Christophers calf on their box. Two calves came from Cathryn Mills and Richard Norman from Somerset and were looked after by Laura Sales.

Steven and Katherine Waters brought two calves from their Easby Herd in Sussex and The Dean family from Kent entered their calf for son Martyn to show.
Two calves came from Andrew Hopes' Tiresford herd in Cheshire and were looked after by son Peter and Kim McMullen. Joe Cole brought his calf from the local Summerhill Herd and Jessica Hassel entered her Elanbee calf who was shown by Louse Holt.

Saturday saw the Showmanship classes in which all our handlers had to compete against the other Coloured Breeds.

These classes were hotly contested and the top two placed Guernsey handlers in each class went on to take part in the Breed championship. There were: Kathrine Waters,12, Morgan Senior,14, Joe Cole,16, Laura Sales, 19, Martyn Dean, 20 and 23 year olds David Christophers and Louse Holt.

Alan Timbrell was the Judge and awarded the Championship to David Christophers with Laura Sales in Reserve and Louse Holt as Hon. Mention.

Sunday was the Calf Classes day. Our Breed Judge was Colin Gleed from Stokenchurch. Here is his report:

Class 17. Guernsey Calf born after 1st Jan 2008

My first place in this class went to Tredinney Andante's Lilly 5, by Yogi's Andante and shown by Morgan Senior. She was a well balanced calf with plenty of stretch and paraded well which gave her the advantage over second placed, Tredinney Prince Lillian 8, by Yogi's Prince and shown by Bethan Senior. She was another smart dairy heifer with plenty of scope. Third was a very smart Dairy calf from Mills and Norman and shown by Laura Sales. She was less mature than the previous two but showed great promise for the future.

Fourth was Gwernyfed Posie shown by Kim McMullen from Tiresford and fifth was Elanbee Pacific Queen from Jessica Hassal and sixth was Cadbury Hawk Onyx, who was at a disadvantage being the youngest in the class but was expertly shown by David Christophers.

Class 17 Line-Up

Winner of Class 17, Tredinney Andantes Lily 5

Class 22. Guernsey Calf born between 1st Sept and 31st Dec 2007

First place in this class went to David Christophers' Tredinney Buzzards Bracken 4. She was a lovely balanced dairy heifer who was slightly more correct than the second placed Easby Polyanthus 12 by Ripley Farms R O Royalty, who showed extreme dairyness and was well shown by Steven Waters.

Class 22 Line-Up

Winner of Class 22, Tredinney Buzzards Bracken 4

Class 27/32. Guernsey Calf born between 1st Jan and 31st Aug 2007

First place in this class went to Viaduct Betty 2 by Eva's Tradition, from the Dean Family and shown by Martyn Dean.

She was a very correct and balanced heifer with a super rump and had the advantage over the second placed animal, Summerhill Danaa 23rd br Tiresford Preacher and shown by Joe Cole, in that she paraded better. My second placed heifer was prefered over the third place by a superior rump. She was Easby Peony 4 by Tiller Kahn and led by Katherine Waters. A super dairy heifer that paraded well. Fourth was Tiresford Snowdrop 46 by Shaka and shown by Kim McMullen.

Class 27/32 Line-Up

Winner of Class 27/32, Viaduct Betty 2

Championship Line-Up

My Champion was Tredinney Buzzards Bracken 4. Reserve was Tredinney Andante's Lily and Hon Mention went to Tredinney Prince Lillian 8. A clean sweep for the Cornish contingent and James Warren, who bred the trio. Well done to them all.

I would like to thank my fellow stewards, Neil Sales and Matthew Senior for their support and Nick Dain, who showed me the ropes at my first All Breeds Calf Show. Also A BIG thank you to all the exhibitors and handlers for turning out in the extreme February weather. (The Show will revert back to the original October date this year)

Thanks also to Laura who provided a lovely information display in the cattle lines.
