The South West all breeds calf show was held on Wednesday 20 August 2008 at the Royal Cornwall Showground near Wadebridge. Twenty-three FGB's were on hand to show 30 wonderful Guernsey calves.

Our judge for the day was Mr Martin Smith from the Lynchmead herd of Holsteins near Weston-Super-Mare. The showmanship classes started the day and first in the ring were the junior leaders under 12 years old. This was won by Chloe Paull who handled her calf extremely well and was closely followed by Scarlet Matthews. In third place was Bridget Hichens and fourth was Sam Genduso.

Chole Paull wins Junior Handler

Class two was Intermediate leaders aged 12 - under 17. This was the largest class of the day with 13 competitors. Victory went to Edd Hosking with Ashley Richards in second place. Third was Jez Hichens followed by Morgan Senior. All leaders are to be commended for their excellent showmanship skills in what was a very closely run contest.

Edd Hosing wins Intermediate Handler

Class three for senior leaders aged 17 - 27.  Judge Martin Smith certainly put these more experienced leaders through their paces. Eventual winner was Emma Greenslade who had the advantage over second placed Laura Sales, in that her calf was more balanced and more suited in size to its leader. Thrid place went to Sam Wells with Jonathan Hosken in fourth.

Emma Greenslade wins Senior Handler

In the championship, leaders were asked to swap calves to test their skills even further. Worthy champion was Emma Greenslade with Edd Hosking in Reserve and Laura Sales Honourable Mention. These 3 showmen are certainly setting the bench mark for our ever growing Future Golden Breeders and are also excelling in interbreed competitions throughout the South West as was demonstrated by Emma who came in close reserve in the Interbreed class that followed.
