Having only been to Stithians once when Mum judged the Guernseys, when I was small and not remembering much about it, I was surprised to find a really nice 'proper' Agricultural Show and the cattle accross all breeds were of a very high standard.  The Guernseys saw three Exhibitors forward. The Warren Family, Grose Family and Ian Rowe with a total of 25 animals from the three Exhibitors. Although rain was threatening only a haze of the wet stuff dampended the show at the begining of Judging.  Colin Evans from Carmarthenshire, Wales was the judge and his report will follow.

First class of the day was a class for calves born After August 2007.  This saw 10 Entries Forward all being led by Future Golden Breeders Ranging from pre-school children to school leavers.  First in this class was Tredinney Buzzards Bracken 3rd lead by Ashley Richards, 2nd another Buzzard daughter from Tredinney and lead by Morgan Senior. In 3rd was Tredinney Andante Eclipes lead by Edd Hosking. 4th was taken by Trewarnevas Red Brenda.

Next came the Maiden Heifer class. With three forward a first came for the Grose family with Trewarnevas Day, second went to Trewey Strawberry by Trewey Surprise and owned by Ian Rowe.  Third also came from Ian with Tredinney Oaks Snowdrop by St Senara Jeans Oak.

Maiden Heifer Class

Then came the In Calf Heifer Class.  First came from Tredinney with Andy Pandy's Idealist and in second Ian Rowe with his Tredinney Hunters Chandelier.

In Calf Heifers

Colin then had all the previous class winners back in the ring to award the special prize for the best heifer not yet been inmilk and he awarded this to the Calf born after August 2007 from the Warren Family.

Tredinney Buzzards Bracken 3rd

Then he moved onto the Dry cow class with two mature cows forward.  First was awarded to Laity Farm Idealist 13 by Jengolden Proking Royal Oak and in second was the Groses Boskenna Crocus.

Dry Cows

The Heifer in milk class provided another win for the Warrens with Tredinney Yogis Primrose 16, second was another Yogibear daighter Tredinney Yogis Gabrielle 2 also from the Warrens, as was thrid placed Tredinney Hunters Memory 3.

Heifers in Milk

Next was the Cow in milk class.  Laity Farm Primrose 96th by Mr Luck was the winner with her herd mates Tredinney Highness Ruby Gem and Tredinney Maypennents Periwinkle 4th in Second and Third.

Cows in Milk

Next came the Pairs with the Yogibear pair of heifers from the Warrens in first andthere two calves by Tredinney Maypennents Andy Pandy in Second.  The Groups also saw two entries from the Warrens with his group of cows in milk in first and the three Heifers in second.

Now came the Championship with all 1st prize winners coming back into the ring. Due to the lack of handlers to lead all animals I stepped in (only too gladly might i add) to lead the Heifer in milk. After a final inspection, Colin give a brief but informative final few words to the ringside on each class winner before tapping out his Champion.  Laity Farm Primrose 96th took the tittle with the Yogibear Heifer in Reserve.

Later on after the Interbreed awards, which were dominated by the Holstein from the Carlyon Herd and the Ayrshire from the Christophers Familes' Rosehill Herd.  Colin and his family have always been willing to hold demonstrations and training for the FGBS since its start.  The young handlers classes took place with Jonathan Grose and Kerris Richards beging placed in top half of the class for boy and girls under the age of 9.  Ian Rowe taking top prize in the class for 10-13 year olds on his 12th Birthday, with Bethan and Morgan Senior being placed 3rd and 4th in the same class.  The last class for boys and girls aged between 14 and 16 saw Edd Hoskings with the calf he has on loan from James at the moment in First with Ashley Richards placed 2nd.

Edd and Ashley taking top spots in the young handlers class

After this was the YFC competions, Morgan Senior, Edd Hosking, Simon Hollow and Ashley Richards, joined by Jeremy Hitchens who had to pull out of the Guernsey classes competed in the class for Dairy calves born after 1st August 2007.  James Warren must be thanked for providing all these cavles to the FGB's in order for them to put on such a good show for the breed.

However one Tiny FGB decided the horse jumps were much more fun during the Grade Parade

Well done Primrose(and the Warren Family!!) I expect she is getting near to the record 19 breed Championships that "our" Stella gained during the nineties. Good to see so many Future Golden Breeders out in force. I hope they will all be present at the Training Camp at the Hichens on July 28th/29th.
