Katherine and Jason Salisbury who purchased 25 Guernseys to establish their Sharnford herd to provide milk for their newly established Suffolk Farmhouse Cheese business in 2004 have been awarded a "Silver Medal" at the British Cheese Awards for their "brie" style Golden Lady cheese.
The cheeses were first marketed in Jan 2005 and have been well recieved and demand is now outstripping supply, with storage of the cheeses whilst they mature (8-12 weeks) proving the bottleneck.
Their Landlord at Shrublands Park is keen for them to expand the business but at the moment there is a balance to be struck between establishing the quality and reputation of the products and managing expansion.
What is clear though is that given enthusiasm, an appetite for hard work ,and the desire to develop a "unique" business there are opportunities for success even in these difficult times.
